Life isn’t about waiting for the perfect moment—it’s about creating one. Just ask Denise Wall, a Massachusetts-based health coach who discovered her true calling well after raising four children and working as a CPA.

Finding Her Path

Denise’s journey began with a simple question: “What is my dash?” Referencing the famous poem about the meaningful life lived between one’s birth and death dates, she started exploring new possibilities after her youngest child left for college. A pivotal moment came when she took a Myers-Briggs strength assessment that surprisingly suggested health coaching—a career she knew nothing about at the time.

“When I looked into it more,” Denise recalls, “I thought, ‘My god, this is perfect. It’s so much about who I’ve been and what’s given me strength through the ups and downs of life.'”

Choosing the Right Program

After researching numerous coaching programs, Denise found her home with the Health Coach Institute (HCI). What set HCI apart was its unique approach: regular live Zoom sessions, interactive practicums, and comprehensive training that went beyond coaching skills to include crucial business and marketing education.

“The energy was so palpable,” she says. “They had an explanation of what I knew in my head, but I didn’t know how to share with others.”

Breaking Barriers and Challenging Assumptions

Denise’s journey challenges the misconception that career transformations have an expiration date. “We’re not too old to learn new things,” she emphasizes. “We have the opportunity, the knowing what we want, and the skills we’re good at.”

Her advice for those considering a mid-career pivot? “Say yes and try different things. Nothing has to be permanent. Surround yourself with motivated people, identify your strengths, and be okay with stepping out of your comfort zone.”

A New Professional Chapter

After completing HCI’s Pathway program and passing the National Board of Health Wellness Coaching exam, Denise transitioned from a private practice to working with Asset Health, coaching participants from Care First Blue Cross Blue Shield. Now, she’s returning to her personal practice with expanded skills and confidence.

For Denise, health coaching is more than a job—it’s a calling. “We need more coaches,” she passionately believes. “It’s amazing to see the transformation with individuals. Most people know what to do; they just need help getting there.”

Your Next Chapter Awaits

Denise’s story is a testament to the power of lifelong learning and personal reinvention. Whether you’re a parent looking to restart your career, someone seeking a more fulfilling professional path, or simply curious about health coaching, there’s a world of opportunity waiting.

As Denise would say: Just do it.
