Most people work at it, building up their confidence \u201cmuscle\u201d over time.<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nSelf-confidence is like a muscle because you can strengthen it through practice, repetition, and positive reinforcement. And when it comes to confidence building, your mindset has A LOT to do with it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The great news is, you can <em>learn<\/em> confidence.<\/strong> What a game changer, right?<\/p>\n<p>Check out these 13 tips, with confidence building exercises to help you skyrocket your self-confidence and own your amazingness.<\/p>\n<h2>1. Visualize Your Most Confident Self<\/h2>\n<p>Practicing visualization is a great way to leverage your most powerful weapon (your mind!), change your self-perception, and become the confident you, you desire.<\/p>\n<p>Start by imagining the most confident version of yourself. Create a detailed, highly specific picture in your mind. What does that you look like? How are you dressed? Where are you? How do you talk, think, act?<\/p>\n<p>Put as much thought and energy into fleshing out the intricacies of this version of you as if to breathe it into being.<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\">Confidence building exercise: Take out a notebook and write down a detailed description of your most confident self. Write for at least 10 minutes and don\u2019t think too much about it. Just write down what you see and don\u2019t question it. Let your imagination go wild.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>2. Utilize Affirmations<\/h2>\n<p>We tend to believe what we tell ourselves, which can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on what our inner voice is saying.<\/p>\n<p>If your inner voice is negative, doubting, or judgmental, using affirmations can actually retrain your brain to think more positively.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re not familiar with affirmations, they\u2019re positive statements that help you set an intention for who you want to be and how you want to feel.<br \/>\nTry reciting an affirmation like \u201cI am confident and courageous\u201d to yourself (silently or aloud) whenever you\u2019re struggling in the confidence department.<\/p>\n<p>Repeat the affirmation over and over to yourself as often as you can, and over time\u2014it\u2019ll become an unconscious belief!<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\">Confidence<\/strong><strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\"><strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\"><strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\"> building exercise: Look up positive quotes and affirmations on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinterest.com\/healthcoachinst\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pinterest<\/a> or Google. Write down the ones that speak to you and meditate on them daily. You can write them out over and over as part of your morning routine, or spend a few minutes looking in the mirror and reciting them. This is going to make you feel good and help shift your energy.<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>3. Question Your Inner Critic<\/h2>\n<p>If that little naysayer in your head is really giving you grief and making you question everything about yourself, try challenging it with a direct question like: \u201cWhere\u2019s the evidence of that?<\/p>\n<p>\u201dTaking a logical approach to the truthfulness of that voice is not only illuminating, but can very quickly identify and help you call \u201cbullsh*t\u201d on the negative self-talk.<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\">Confidence building exercise: Write down something negative you\u2019ve been telling yourself that\u2019s hurting your self-confidence and then write down the factual evidence (no opinions!) that this is true.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>4. Leave Your Comfort Zone&#8230;Regularly<\/h2>\n<p>A great way to become more confident is to spend more time doing the things you\u2019re feeling insecure about!<\/p>\n<p>It sounds counterintuitive, but embracing our fears is how we work through them. When you do things you\u2019re scared of, those things lose their power over you.<\/p>\n<p>So if you\u2019re afraid of public speaking, for instance, volunteer to read at an open mic night or take the lead on that next work meeting.<br \/>\nAnd remember: that feeling of discomfort<em> isn\u2019t<\/em> forever. The more you step out of your comfort zone, the easier it\u2019ll get.<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\">Confidence building exercise: Write down one action you will commit to taking to move outside of your comfort zone.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>5. Hit The Books<\/h2>\n<p>Likewise, if you\u2019re feeling unconfident in an area you\u2019re not particularly knowledgeable in, devote some time and effort to increasing your competency in that area.<\/p>\n<p>Take a class, join a group, listen to a podcast, visit the local library, or scour the almighty Google to learn more about the topic you\u2019re feeling unknowledgeable about.<\/p>\n<p>Regular practice and study will put you on the path to self-assuredness in no time.<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\">Confidence building exercise: Write down one area you\u2019d like to increase your competency in and the steps you\u2019ll take to do so.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>6. Change a (Small) Habit<\/h2>\n<p>There\u2019s nothing like making positive change in your life to give you a newfound sense of confidence!<\/p>\n<p>So think of a habit you\u2019d like to change and tackle it. It can be anything, but make it <em>small<\/em> and <em>specific<\/em> so you set yourself up for the best possible success. For example, instead of saying something like \u201cI will go to bed earlier,&#8221; say \u201cI will be in bed by 10 pm every night so I can get a full eight hours of sleep\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Once you\u2019ve mastered it and feel the high of accomplishment, you can move on to something larger.<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\">Confidence building exercise: Write down one small habit you want to change and tackle it.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>7. Celebrate Your Victories<\/h2>\n<p>Another easy way to boost your confidence is by recording your wins.<\/p>\n<p>Grab a notebook and aim to keep a daily log of three to five small and large wins you experience each day. The practice of writing your victories down will further ingrain them in your brain.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, you can refer back to all your accomplishments when you encounter rough days (as you will\u2014we ALL do!) to see how far you\u2019ve come and how much you have to be proud of!<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\">Confidence<\/strong><strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\"><strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\"><strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\">building exercise: Write down three to five recent wins in your life (large or small).<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>8. Help Someone<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Helping others is a great way to gain more confidence. Leveraging a personal strength to help someone else 1.) shifts your focus away from your perceived shortcomings to areas you excel in and, 2.) gives you the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in someone else\u2019s life (both of which can do wonders for improving your self-image!).<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Give some thought to your top strengths and how you can use those strengths to benefit others.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><br \/>\nAct as a mentor to a friend or loved one. Put your strength to use in a volunteer setting (check out\u00a0<a style=\"font-size: 16px;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.volunteermatch.org\/\">VolunteerMatch.org<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"> for ideas). Or consider how you can monetize your strength as a tutor or teacher.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\">Confidence building exercise: Make a list of your strengths and ways you can leverage them to help others.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>9. Take Time For You<\/h2>\n<p>Self-care may not be something that immediately jumps to mind in relation to confidence building; but in truth, it\u2019s hard to feel good about yourself if you aren\u2019t meeting your basic needs.<\/p>\n<p>Your self-confidence is a barometer of your mental, physical, emotional, spiritual, and social health. So make sure you\u2019re adequately tending to yourself by getting enough movement in, creating space for yourself, connecting with others, making time for personal hobbies, etc.<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\">Confidence\u00a0building exercise: Write down five ways you\u2019ll practice self-care.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>10. Walk the Talk<\/h2>\n<p>If you don\u2019t <em>feel<\/em> confident yet, there\u2019s a lot to be said for dressing the part you want to play.<\/p>\n<p>Think about the \u201cyou\u201d you visualized in step one and put that vision into action.<\/p>\n<p>Dress in a way that makes you feel like a million bucks (this can be different to everyone, so go with what feels good to <em>you<\/em>!), pay attention to your posture (the taller you stand, the more confident you\u2019ll feel), and speak clearly and self-assuredly.<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\">Confidence building exercise: Write down what \u201cwalking the talk\u201d means to you.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>11. Say <em>Sayonara<\/em> to Comparison<\/h2>\n<p>Comparison isn\u2019t just the thief of joy, it\u2019s the thief of confidence. When you spend all your time comparing yourself to others, you open the door for self-doubt. You start to question your own abilities and talents. It\u2019s no good!<\/p>\n<p>So make a point to unfollow or keep your distance from anyone in your life that you\u2019re engaging in unhealthy comparison with.<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\">Confidence building exercise: Make a list of people you\u2019ve caught yourself engaging in unhealthy comparison with and actions you\u2019ll take to protect your boundaries.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>12. Enlist a Cheerleader<\/h2>\n<p>No, we don\u2019t mean the acrobatic kind! We\u2019re talking about the people in your life who are positive, encouraging, and inspire you to be the best version of you.<\/p>\n<p>Surrounding yourself with people who support, uplift, and \u201cget\u201d you is an excellent <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthcoachinstitute.com\/motivational\/top-13-self-confidence-tips\/\">motivator<\/a> <\/strong>and confidence booster.<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\">Confidence building exercise: Write down who your cheerleaders are and why.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>13. Most people work at it, building up their confidence \u201cmuscle\u201d over time.\n<\/strong>\nSelf-confidence is like a muscle because you can strengthen it through practice, repetition, and positive reinforcement. And when it comes to confidence building, your mindset has A LOT to do with it.\n\n<strong>The great news is, you can <em>learn<\/em> confidence.<\/strong> What a game changer, right?\n\nCheck out these 13 tips, with confidence building exercises to help you skyrocket your self-confidence and own your amazingness.\n<h2>1. Visualize Your Most Confident Self<\/h2>\nPracticing visualization is a great way to leverage your most powerful weapon (your mind!), change your self-perception, and become the confident you, you desire.\n\nStart by imagining the most confident version of yourself. Create a detailed, highly specific picture in your mind. What does that you look like? How are you dressed? Where are you? How do you talk, think, act?\n\nPut as much thought and energy into fleshing out the intricacies of this version of you as if to breathe it into being.\n\n<strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\">Confidence building exercise: Take out a notebook and write down a detailed description of your most confident self. Write for at least 10 minutes and don\u2019t think too much about it. Just write down what you see and don\u2019t question it. Let your imagination go wild.<\/strong>\n<h2>2. Utilize Affirmations<\/h2>\nWe tend to believe what we tell ourselves, which can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on what our inner voice is saying.\n\nIf your inner voice is negative, doubting, or judgmental, using affirmations can actually retrain your brain to think more positively.\n\nIf you\u2019re not familiar with affirmations, they\u2019re positive statements that help you set an intention for who you want to be and how you want to feel.\nTry reciting an affirmation like \u201cI am confident and courageous\u201d to yourself (silently or aloud) whenever you\u2019re struggling in the confidence department.\n\nRepeat the affirmation over and over to yourself as often as you can, and over time\u2014it\u2019ll become an unconscious belief!\n\n<strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\">Confidence<\/strong><strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\"><strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\"><strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\"> building exercise: Look up positive quotes and affirmations on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinterest.com\/healthcoachinst\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pinterest<\/a> or Google. Write down the ones that speak to you and meditate on them daily. You can write them out over and over as part of your morning routine, or spend a few minutes looking in the mirror and reciting them. This is going to make you feel good and help shift your energy.<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong>\n<h2>3. Question Your Inner Critic<\/h2>\nIf that little naysayer in your head is really giving you grief and making you question everything about yourself, try challenging it with a direct question like: \u201cWhere\u2019s the evidence of that?\n\n\u201dTaking a logical approach to the truthfulness of that voice is not only illuminating, but can very quickly identify and help you call \u201cbullsh*t\u201d on the negative self-talk.\n\n<strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\">Confidence building exercise: Write down something negative you\u2019ve been telling yourself that\u2019s hurting your self-confidence and then write down the factual evidence (no opinions!) that this is true.<\/strong>\n<h2>4. Leave Your Comfort Zone...Regularly<\/h2>\nA great way to become more confident is to spend more time doing the things you\u2019re feeling insecure about!\n\nIt sounds counterintuitive, but embracing our fears is how we work through them. When you do things you\u2019re scared of, those things lose their power over you.\n\nSo if you\u2019re afraid of public speaking, for instance, volunteer to read at an open mic night or take the lead on that next work meeting.\nAnd remember: that feeling of discomfort<em> isn\u2019t<\/em> forever. The more you step out of your comfort zone, the easier it\u2019ll get.\n\n<strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\">Confidence building exercise: Write down one action you will commit to taking to move outside of your comfort zone.<\/strong>\n<h2>5. Hit The Books<\/h2>\nLikewise, if you\u2019re feeling unconfident in an area you\u2019re not particularly knowledgeable in, devote some time and effort to increasing your competency in that area.\n\nTake a class, join a group, listen to a podcast, visit the local library, or scour the almighty Google to learn more about the topic you\u2019re feeling unknowledgeable about.\n\nRegular practice and study will put you on the path to self-assuredness in no time.\n\n<strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\">Confidence building exercise: Write down one area you\u2019d like to increase your competency in and the steps you\u2019ll take to do so.<\/strong>\n<h2>6. Change a (Small) Habit<\/h2>\nThere\u2019s nothing like making positive change in your life to give you a newfound sense of confidence!\n\nSo think of a habit you\u2019d like to change and tackle it. It can be anything, but make it <em>small<\/em> and <em>specific<\/em> so you set yourself up for the best possible success. For example, instead of saying something like \u201cI will go to bed earlier,'' say \u201cI will be in bed by 10 pm every night so I can get a full eight hours of sleep\u201d.\n\nOnce you\u2019ve mastered it and feel the high of accomplishment, you can move on to something larger.\n\n<strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\">Confidence building exercise: Write down one small habit you want to change and tackle it.<\/strong>\n<h2>7. Celebrate Your Victories<\/h2>\nAnother easy way to boost your confidence is by recording your wins.\n\nGrab a notebook and aim to keep a daily log of three to five small and large wins you experience each day. The practice of writing your victories down will further ingrain them in your brain.\n\nPlus, you can refer back to all your accomplishments when you encounter rough days (as you will\u2014we ALL do!) to see how far you\u2019ve come and how much you have to be proud of!\n\n<strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\">Confidence<\/strong><strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\"><strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\"><strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\">building exercise: Write down three to five recent wins in your life (large or small).<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong>\n<h2>8. Help Someone<\/h2>\n<span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Helping others is a great way to gain more confidence. Leveraging a personal strength to help someone else 1.) shifts your focus away from your perceived shortcomings to areas you excel in and, 2.) gives you the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in someone else\u2019s life (both of which can do wonders for improving your self-image!).\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Give some thought to your top strengths and how you can use those strengths to benefit others.\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>\nAct as a mentor to a friend or loved one. Put your strength to use in a volunteer setting (check out\u00a0<a style=\"font-size: 16px;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.volunteermatch.org\/\">VolunteerMatch.org<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"> for ideas). Or consider how you can monetize your strength as a tutor or teacher.\n<\/span><\/span>\n<strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\">Confidence building exercise: Make a list of your strengths and ways you can leverage them to help others.<\/strong>\n<h2>9. Take Time For You<\/h2>\nSelf-care may not be something that immediately jumps to mind in relation to confidence building; but in truth, it\u2019s hard to feel good about yourself if you aren\u2019t meeting your basic needs.\n\nYour self-confidence is a barometer of your mental, physical, emotional, spiritual, and social health. So make sure you\u2019re adequately tending to yourself by getting enough movement in, creating space for yourself, connecting with others, making time for personal hobbies, etc.\n\n<strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\">Confidence\u00a0building exercise: Write down five ways you\u2019ll practice self-care.<\/strong>\n<h2>10. Walk the Talk<\/h2>\nIf you don\u2019t <em>feel<\/em> confident yet, there\u2019s a lot to be said for dressing the part you want to play.\n\nThink about the \u201cyou\u201d you visualized in step one and put that vision into action.\n\nDress in a way that makes you feel like a million bucks (this can be different to everyone, so go with what feels good to <em>you<\/em>!), pay attention to your posture (the taller you stand, the more confident you\u2019ll feel), and speak clearly and self-assuredly.\n\n<strong style=\"color: #9d1e65; font-size: 18px;\">Confidence building exercise: Write down what \u201cwalking the talk\u201d means to you.<\/strong>\n<h2>11. Say <em>Sayonara<\/em> to Comparison<\/h2>\nComparison isn\u2019t just the thief of joy, it\u2019s the thief of confidence. When you spend all your time comparing yourself to others, you open the door for self-doubt. You start to question your own abilities and talents.
