Having a dedicated space to practice your meditation can make a world of difference if:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You find yourself struggling to meditate consistently.<\/li>\n<li>You have trouble getting into the zone and\/or staying focused.<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019re easily distracted by your environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Even if meditating isn\u2019t a challenge for you, creating a meditation nook for your spiritual practice can offer benefits. For seasoned meditators, a meditation room can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Elevate your spiritual experience<\/li>\n<li>Heighten your self-awareness<\/li>\n<li>Make your mindfulness practice a more cherished daily routine<\/li>\n<li>Raise the vibration of your meditation space<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>By establishing a singular space to meditate, you\u2019ll find it easier to get into a relaxed state of mind. Entering your meditation space will automatically signal to your brain that it\u2019s time to practice. And being in a space free of other distracting physical objects will help you focus more intently on your practice.<\/p>\n<h2>Choosing Your Meditation Space<\/h2>\n<p>Some people choose to designate an entire room to their meditation practice, others carve out a sacred space within an existing room (like a bedroom, living room, or office), and still others choose to set up practice outside in a garden, treehouse, or other serene spot.<\/p>\n<p>Where you create your meditation corner is entirely up to you. Just make sure it\u2019s conducive to relaxation and it\u2019s a safe, inviting place to retreat, compose, and rejuvenate. It just needs to function as a place where you can be still and practice mindfulness. (That being said, if you want to make it fancy, by all means do so!) The only real guidelines for your meditation corner are that it should:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Speak to you and be personal<\/li>\n<li>Feel comfortable, relaxed, and inviting<\/li>\n<li>Promote a peaceful state of mind<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>When choosing a color palette for your space, be mindful that colors can evoke different emotions. Some people prefer to meditate on a meditation cushion,\u00a0others choose a meditation bench.\u00a0Some opt for a basic yoga mat,\u00a0while others prefer the added support of a meditation chair.<\/p>\n<p>You may also want to include a sound machine or speakers to play music or relaxing sounds, like water, nature, or other ambient noise. Some people also enjoy guided meditations from an app or YouTube, instead of straight silence. However, all other forms of technology should be kept outside the walls of your meditation space. As we\u2019re all too familiar, phones, TVs, and gaming devices tend to be highly distracting and are likely to steal your focus away from the task at hand, so using them minimally in your meditation space is crucial.<\/p>\n<h2>Meditation Room Ideas<\/h2>\n<p>Here are some ideas to create a zen space for your mindfulness practice that appeals to all five of your senses.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Smell:<\/strong> Burn incense, a candle, or use essential oils. Essential oils can be inhaled, diffused, or applied topically before you meditate. Some essential oil favorites for meditation include: frankincense, sandalwood, cedarwood, neroli, and ylang ylang. But feel free to use whatever makes you feel calm and at peace.<br \/>\n<strong>Sound:<\/strong> Play relaxing music from a sound machine or a guided meditation, add a small tabletop fountain to enhance feelings of tranquility, or use a Tibetan singing bell or sound bowls.<br \/>\n<strong>Sight:<\/strong> Add statues, wall art,\u00a0a salt lamp, plants, inviting textiles, and crystals. A couple of crystals that work well for meditation are amethyst (strengthens intuition and clears negativity) and chevronic crystal (helps maintain a balanced spirit). But if you want to meditate on something specific, you can also choose a crystal that aligns with your intention.<br \/>\n<strong>Touch:<\/strong> Meditate while holding mala beads or consider incorporating affirmation cards, books or journals into your practice.<br \/>\n<strong>Taste:<\/strong> Keep a calming tea like chamomile, water with lemon, or your calming beverage of choice on-hand to enjoy after your session.<br \/>\nIf you wish, you can also include a meditation altar in your space.<\/p>\n<h2>What is a Meditation Altar?<\/h2>\n<p>A meditation altar is a sacred place that you can create within your meditation space for ritual, prayer, meditation, and spiritual enlightenment. It is, in essence, an outer manifestation of your inner attunement.<br \/>\nTo create the altar, you\u2019ll need a table for holding whatever sacred items you select and an area to sit or kneel.<\/p>\n<p>What you choose to display on your table is entirely up to you, but the objects you choose should touch you, uplift you, and hold meaning for you.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here are 10 ideas for objects to display on your meditation altar:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sacred objects (These are unique, personal items that hold significance for you and bring you feelings of joy, comfort, and peace.)<\/li>\n<li>Dietities<\/li>\n<li>Books\/journals<\/li>\n<li>Crystals<\/li>\n<li>Photos<\/li>\n<li>Mala\/prayer beads<\/li>\n<li>Quotes<\/li>\n<li>Sacred texts<\/li>\n<li>Oracle cards<\/li>\n<li>Artwork<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can also select objects that appeal to each of your five senses to display on your meditation table.<\/p>\n<h3>Final Thoughts On Creating a Meditation Corner<\/h3>\n<p>Just like we have dedicated spaces to eat, sleep, and bathe, so should we have a sacred space for stillness, for reflection, and serenity. As we\u2019re all too familiar, phones, TVs, and gaming devices tend to be highly distracting and are likely to steal your focus away from the task at hand, so using them minimally in your meditation space is crucial.\n<h2>Meditation Room Ideas<\/h2>\nHere are some ideas to create a zen space for your mindfulness practice that appeals to all five of your senses.\n\n<strong>Smell:<\/strong> Burn incense, a candle, or use essential oils. Essential oils can be inhaled, diffused, or applied topically before you meditate. Some essential oil favorites for meditation include: frankincense, sandalwood, cedarwood, neroli, and ylang ylang.
