5 Healthy Purge Tips Post Memorial Weekend Binge
There’s nothing quite like a 3-day weekend of dinner parties and lounging to derail your health.
If you’re thinking “oops, I did it again” you’re not alone. Millions of Americans today are burnt out on their weekend cookouts and will spend the next week, or more, fretting over their health and wishing they’d spared one last trip to the dessert table over the weekend.
Urrrgh. There’s no going back. But there is moving forward.
Here at HCI we don’t want you to spend the next week feeling so guilty over your gluttony that you’re setting your alarm for the crack of dawn to do jumping jacks in your bathroom before work so as not to wake up the kids. Or you’re vowing publicly to your 567 friends on Facebook that you’ll never ever EVER even look at another creamy potato salad and you throw your mayonnaise jar out the window.
Instead, we want you to forgive yourself for whatever over-consumption you endured at your own fingertips. Have compassion for yourself. We’re all animal after all. Rats would have done the same.
We want to give you healthy purge tips so you can feel positive and empowered as the week progresses.
Here are our top 5 healthy purge tips post Memorial weekend binge:
1. Drink water.
Even if you didn’t spend your Monday night passed out on your in-law’s sofa from intoxication, it’s still good to re-hydrate and cleanse your system by drinking lots of water. Start your day off with a 20 ounce glass of fresh, filtered water and refill it throughout the day. Drink a glass every other hour and you’ll be well on your way to optimum hydration.
2. Eat light.
Instead of starving yourself or skipping meals, choose healthy food over the next few days to get your system loaded with top nutrition. Eating a lot of raw veggies and salads will cleanse your digestive system and the fiber will help regulate your bowels. Or juice up your veggies in a blender to give you the vitamins, minerals and hydration all in one.
3. Stay clear of condiments.
Condiments like ketchup, soy sauce, mayonnaise, salad dressings etc contain so many added flavorants and preservatives that they can aggravate your digestive system at the best of times. So while your system is recuperating from some heavy loading on desserts over the weekend, give it a rest by eating foods without adding “tasty” condiments.
You don’t need to be that crazy person who arrives at the gym first thing before it even opens. Nor do you need to suddenly increase your casual walk around the block after dinner to a 2-hour long jog up the steepest hill your neighborhood. Take it easy. Just pick one exercise you can stick to for the week and do it in moderation every other day. If you choose jogging, then go for a 20-minute jog every other day after work.
5. Go to sleep early.
One of the very best ways for our bodies to recuperate after being taxed (even if that comes in the form of one fried chicken wing too many) is rest. And the ultimate rest is, of course, sleep. So this week, be sure to go to sleep early. We recommend 10pm and getting a full 8 hours sleep every night. Your body will regroup and you’ll bounce back faster to optimum health.
