But before you make any big changes in your life and dive right into a new vocation, it’s important to first:
- Do your research—all training programs are NOT created equal!
- Do some soul-searching (That’s what this page is all about.)
When we say soul-searching, we’re talking about looking inward to understand:
What it is YOU are searching for
What you want to achieve PROFESSIONALLY
What you want your LIFE to look like
In an effort to help you get clear on whether
So without further ado, here are 5 questions to ask yourself if you’re considering becoming a .
Is a Health Coaching Career for You?
- Are you passionate about health?
- Are you committed to living a healthy, vibrant life?
- Are you interested in understanding and resolving your own health, body, and food issues?
- Are you willing to do the work it takes to have the lifestyle you want?
- Do you want to help others live a healthy, vibrant life?
Before we explore each question in detail, what do you notice about these questions? Four out of the five are about YOUR health, wellbeing, and goals. Only the last question involves your potential clients and career as a
Because one of the ways that help others is by leading—or living—by example.
Now, let’s break down the questions one by one.
Question 1: Are you passionate about health?
When you’re a , you will be thinking about health—what it means, how it manifests, how to achieve it—nonstop! And as you probably already know, health goes beyond just diet and exercise. It’s also about relationships, money, career choices, personal choices….the list goes on and on.
If you love the idea of spending lots of time thinking, reading, and talking about health, then answer a resounding YES to this question!
Question 2: Are you committed to living a healthy, vibrant life?
To pick up on where the previous question left off, living a healthy, vibrant life as a is essential to your practice because you can only take a client as far as you yourself are willing to go.
What do we mean by this? Well, part of being a is being able to envision your clients’ best selves, and if you can’t do that for yourself, you won’t be able to do it for them.
This is NOT to say you have to be perfect. (You do NOT!)
We ALL have our own challenges, and getting a good handle on them is not the same as being perfect and having everything figured out.
But, one big element of involves continuously striving and working toward becoming your best YOU. Who doesn’t want that?
If you’re committed to cultivating health and aliveness in yourself so you can live YOUR best life, then YES is the answer to this question!
Question 3: Are you interested in understanding and resolving your own health, body, food, and money issues?
At Health Coach Institute, we believe that the way you do ONE thing is the way you do EVERYTHING. That’s why our Become a training program is designed to help you build skills that will have a positive impact on every area of your life.
Untangling your relationship to money or food, for example, may be accompanied by a positive change in your self-image or your relationships or your health, which will improve your confidence across the board.
If you’re excited by the prospect of expanding your self-awareness and confidence—and we’re going to guess that you are, otherwise you probably wouldn’t be reading this—say YES to this question!
Question 4: Are you willing to do the work it takes to have a fulfilling career?
There are many ways to have a fulfilling career, and of course we’re all different and looking for different things. But in general, it’s fair to say that a fulfilling career requires you to evolve and grow.
To have a fulfilling career, you must be willing to learn new things, to stretch yourself, to put yourself out there—in short, to challenge yourself.
The best are people who recognize that there’s always more to learn in the name of professional and personal growth, and are inspired by that prospect rather than frustrated by it.
If you are the type of person who loves the idea of working with your own coaches, reading up on the latest in health and nutrition, and attending conferences, workshops, and retreats—all in the name of providing the best coaching you can for your clients—then your answer is YES!
Question 5: Do you want to help others live a healthy, vibrant life?
You would think this would be a no-brainer for someone who wants to be a , right? But again, it’s worth really checking in with yourself on this.
You are choosing a career in which you will be of service to others—that is your work, your calling.
Your future clients will trust you with their thoughts, feelings, fears, hopes, dreams…and you will help them move toward the lives they want to have by breaking old habits and creating new, healthy ones.
It’s a humbling responsibility to be trusted in that way, and a responsibility that must be taken seriously.
Are you up for the challenge? We’re going to answer this one for you—YES, YOU ARE!
Okay, we let our enthusiasm get the best of us (we’re known to do that sometimes)! You have to answer that question for yourself, of course. But just know that we believe you are up for ANY challenge that comes across your path!
